Supporting our legal community

We're delighted to announce that our Director, Emma, has been appointed to the Reaching Justice Wales committee to offer her support and advice for its fundraising and grant activities across Wales. 

Reaching Justice Wales is a charity that aims to improve access to justice for the vulnerable members of society, raises funds and distributes them to organisations that support those who need legal help but cannot afford it. Emma has been invited to join the RJW Management Committee, chaired by HHJ Seys LLewellyn.

Receiving legal help makes an enormous difference to people’s lives, helping to reduce debt, poverty and suffering. Due to the restrictions to Legal Aid, grants from Reaching Justice Wales are ever-central to the work of many pro-bono organisations across Wales. 

One of the key events that Emma is looking forward to supporting through her role as a committee member is the Legal Walks held in Cardiff and also Swansea each year. The Cardiff Legal Walk 2016 will take place on 29 September, starting at Cardiff Crown Court. The Swansea Legal Walk 2016 is on the 3 October. You can now register for both Legal Walks online and start to raise sponsorship individually or as part of a group.

Emma has supported the walk through sponsorship and taking part in the event for the last six years and is delighted to offer more substantial assistance to the charity going forwards. After confirming the appointment, Emma said:

I'm thrilled and honoured to be invited to join the committee. This year RJW hopes to raise the importance of the sponsorship element of the walk. While the Reaching Justice Wales Legal Walks generate hundreds of walkers from law schools, law firms, chambers and from the affiliated legal industries, there is more that can be done to put more into the grant-giving pot. Ultimately, if we can raise more funds, we can support more projects that enable access to justice for the most vulnerable members of our society here in Wales.
